Susan Barnes-Gelt

Susan chaired the Land Use Committee and the Transit-Oriented-Development Committee for most of her 8 years tenure on the Denver City Council (1995-2003).  As an at-large councilwoman she co-chaired a number of planning initiatives including the 2000 Comprehensive Plan and Blueprint Denver.  She recognized dichotomy between the kinds of places where people want to live and work and the development patterns regulated by outdated codes.  Blueprint Denver established a framework for coherence and the new zoning code will provide the tools to help transform Denver into an even more livable city.

Susan continues to write and advocate for smart growth, design excellence and the importance of the public realm. She is an opinion columnist for the Denver Post and jousts with Colorado Senate President John Andrews on PBS Channel 12's daily broadcast, Head-On.
